Stephen Halbrook is an author, lawyer, and champion of the 2nd Amendment. And he’s going to share with us a history lesson of gun control from Nazi German through his book Gun Control in the Third Reich.

Restrict or absolution gun rights they say...

Force people to register their firearms they say...

What could go wrong, it's for the greater good they say.

History has something to say on the topic. And Stephen Halbrook spent 20-years collecting, analyzing, and distilling the information into a book. Join us as he walks us through some of the salient points and takeaways.

To bring new listeners up to speed, Jason is one of the original hosts of ITRH. He and Aaron spent years playing around with rabbit and chicken production on the ITRH Urban farm. After the closure of the urban farm, Jason began a passion project with two objects:

1) Start a small-scale beef production operation (aka micro-ranching)
2) Parlay the success of the beef production into a business and use the proceeds to pay for a bug out location

So what's the result of Jason's venture after a few years? Find out in this episode.

Weird summer short for you today. I say weird because almost no-one really talks about this. But it is a major weak point in our society today. Weak because of fragility.

I have to warn you. This might be a little boring at first. We’re going to talk about an inventory strategy. Or this will be exciting if operations and efficiency blows your skirt up.

This inventory strategy has produced a large benefit for developed nations. It lowers costs of the things you buy every day. And its meant shelves in stores are rarely empty.

The strategy is called Just-in-time inventory.

Breaking Down Just-in-Time Doom:

  • The model explained simply
  • Why business use this strategy
  • How the strategy works
  • What rubber dog doo has to do with just-in-time inventory
  • How supply interruptions impact human behavior
  • How JIT influences human behavior in the long-term
  • What you should do to make sure you do not fall victim to JIT

But there are a collection of survival books I love. And I'll share each of them with you here.

Note: If you’re new to ITRH, this is a summer short episode. As the name suggests, summer shorts are short episodes intended to tide you over till the full seasons starts back up in the fall. They come out about every two weeks.

An EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) attack is one of the top three most feared catastrophes by preppers. It is reported that there will be a 90% population die off in the first year after one occurs. And that's just the start.

But do we know the truth about EMPs?

Arthur Bradley Ph.D., a NASA Scientist, Electrical Engineer, and Certified EMI expert drops by to tell us the truth and destroy the myths.

An episode dedicated to discussing an EMP is one of the most requested topics In The Rabbit Hole gets. But we held off on doing it all these years. The reason was this: We wanted someone who had the credentials and background to speak on the topic expertly. That required a very special person who understood the physics, math, preppers, and prepper fiction.

Note: This episode is technical. We do our best to make the EMP topic approachable for everyone. But somethings just are what they are. With that...

Let’s. Discuss. EMPs!

EMP Topics Covered and Myths Dispelled:

  • Are EMPs a real threat or a Prepper fiction fantasy?
  • How much of what is spread around the community about EMPs is false?
  • The low-frequency high-destruction problem
  • Where do EMPs and CMEs overlap and where do they differ?
  • What are the conditions needed for an EMP to be generated and most effective?
  • Are there nuclear bombs optimized to maximize an EMP?
  • Are there any immediate physical dangers to people by an EMP?
  • What are the ways a bad actor can effectively use an EMP?
  • Can an EMP be used from an Airplane effectively?
  • Does tinfoil really work as shielding or is best left to headwater to keep out the alien mind control waves?
  • What will just stop working and what is a myth?
    • Will all cars die after an EMP?
    • Are batteries susceptible?
    • Will it fry Solar Systems?
    • Does the entry electric grid go down?
  • Will a gun safe protect your electronic gun optics?
  • Can you use a metal trashcan to protect electronics?
  • What products and DIY projects are available to protect electronics?

We pick up where we left off in episode 248. I’ll share 5 more lessons I’ve learned from 15-years in survivalism.

Seems a lot of people enjoyed part one of the 5 Important Lessons from 15 Years in Survivalism series. So we're going to keep things rolling with a part II and part III.

Everything in life is a journey, as the cliche. And along the journey, you make mistakes and course corrections. As you progress your view of the journey changes. Maybe you develop new strategies to replace old strategies. Perhaps you find you understand something completely different from experiences.

These are the things that shape us. And by sharing them we help others progress faster, lose less time, stumble more infrequently, and stay in with more conviction.

As a side note: The title of this series is 5 lessons from 15-Years. I can’t say when I really got serious about prep. The show started in 2010, but I think this all started in 2003. By started I mean where this started to be something I thought about and engaged in daily.

Note: Comment on this episode and share lessons you've learned along the way. These lessons should be the things you would tell you're younger self or someone just starting out.

Survivalism Lessons Covered:

  • Last Week
    1. Why you can't reasonably become a human swiss army knife.
    2. Why All answers need context and nuance.
    3. How Planning and Prepping For TEOTWAWKI is a recipe for disaster and burnout.
    4. You can't force your husband, wife, or life partner into prep. But you can probably lead them into prep.
    5. Almost everything needs an ROI in the immediate future; especially in the beginning.
  • People are your greatest asset and danger in an event.
  • You're better off keeping it to yourself - most of the time.
  • Most preppers think all other preppers are probably loons, and they're right. But only 1% of the time.
  • Nothing is as easy as 'old-timers' make it out to be.
  • Skill almost always supersedes gear.
